Vijf keer de wereld rond. Zegt men.
Five times around the world. So the story goes.
Stalen hoeken, aluminium rails. Begin jaren 2000 bereikte hij België, krassen incluis.
The story goes that this Rhodes circled the globe five times before settling in Europe. That somewhere in Germany, in the late nineties, a road crew got tired of carrying a piano in a case, so they built the case onto the piano. Steel corners, aluminium rails. By the early 2000s it reached Belgium, scratches and all.
We can't prove any of it. What we do know: built in Fullerton in 1977, wearing its miles with pride, and still sounding exactly the way Rhodes intended: warm, woody, alive. The wear is maturity. The reinforcement is an invitation: this instrument is meant to leave the house.
Now it can be your turn. Play the late sets, the jazzy lines, the songs this keyboard has heard a thousand times, and add a few stages to the legend.
